Superintendent's Update

GCS Family,

I pray you all are doing well and preparing for the upcoming school year. I know that just recently there has been a lot of commotion in the pubic school arena and changes in their return to school policy. I want to let you all know that we are still planning on our already published course of action and return to school plan. Below are a few updates:

Cleaning Days

Thank you to all who helped last Saturday. We are having another cleaning day this Saturday, August 15th from 8am - 12:00pm. If you could help out, we would greatly appreciate it!

Board Meeting

There is a board meeting next Tuesday night, August 18th at 6:30 pm in the auditorium at GCS.

Enrollment

We do have 26 new students enrolled. Praise God! However, with that, in some classrooms, we are getting close to capping the grades to still allow for proper social distancing and keeping our GCS school body safe. With that being said, we have not heard from several of you on whether or not your child will be returning. We need to know ASAP so that your child's place in the class can still be maintained.

As I have told several parents, this has to be one of the hardest decisions that you'll have to make for your child(ren). However, don't be paralyzed by over analyzing a specific decision and try not to stress yourself out by making the "right" decision. We all want what is best for your child and you have to trust yourself that as their parent, you will do what is best for them and your family. It's not about what other people are doing because each child and family situation is different so don't get caught up in the comparison game either. Lastly, understand that your decision is not a final decision. The type of schooling that you choose can be changed throughout the course of the year. I understand that everyone wants consistency, but we also understand that everyone has to be a little bit more flexible during this season; especially since everything is changing rapidly.

As followers of Jesus, we fix our eyes and our focus on Him and we allow Him to guide our choices and rely on His wisdom for what is best. I encourage you, as parents/guardians, to do the same. Don't operate under the "paralysis by over-analysis" mentality. We are here to work with you regardless of the decision that you make. Once a GCS bear, always a GCS bear, even if you're not physically in our hallways anymore.

Thank you for continuing to partner with Great Commission. We are looking forward to a wonderful year!

In Christ,

Ms. McConnell
